A torn meniscus is a common injury that involves the tearing of the cartilage in the knee joint. The meniscus is a wedge-shaped cartilage that acts as a cushion between the thighbone (femur) and the shinbone (tibia). Each knee has two menisci—one on the inner side of the knee (medial) and one on the outer side (lateral).
