Arthroscopic shoulder decompression.
Arthroscopic shoulder decompression is a surgical procedure performed to alleviate impingement syndrome in the shoulder joint. Impingement syndrome occurs when the rotator cuff tendons or the subacromial bursa (a fluid-filled sac) become compressed or irritated during arm movements. This can lead to pain, inflammation, and limited range of motion in the shoulder. The arthroscopic approach involves the use of a small, pencil-sized instrument called an arthroscope. This device has a camera attached to it, allowing the surgeon to visualize the inside of the shoulder joint on a monitor. The surgical instruments are inserted through small incisions around the shoulder, minimizing trauma to the surrounding tissues.
